Why should I have it done?
The radiator is an important part of the car's coolant system. It works to prevent the car's system from overheating. The radiator is located behind the car's grill. It has a liquid made of 50 percent water and 50 percent coolant. The coolant keeps the water from boiling even if it reaches temperatures as high as 75 degrees. The radiator does not have any electronic parts. The thermostat is located near the engine and it measures the temperature of the engine. When it gets too hot, the radiator pushes coolant through the chambers of the engine. The radiator has a large surface area. This helps the coolant temperature to lower when it travels through the radiator's coils. It moves the heat away from the engine. Cool air moves through the grill and also helps to lower the temperature. A radiator should last the engine 8 to 10 years. If a car is older, then the radiator will be likely to last the life of the car. Modern radiators are made out of plastic, which can more easily crack or break.
What happens if I don't do it now?
An overheated engine can cause severe damage to a car. A radiator can develop a crack which will lead to the radiator not functioning properly and damaging the car. Coolant can leak out, or a cap can break which will be the cause of an even more expensive repair.
