Reasons a GMC Vehicle Requires Brake Service
Other than the regularly scheduled brake service, there are other times when brakes might require maintenance. Typically, the
brake fluid is checked as part of a
multi-point inspection any time the vehicle comes into a shop. If the brake fluid is low or seems contaminated, it calls for brake fluid exchange and requires a deeper inspection to determine the root cause of the problem. If brake pads wear out prematurely, again, a knowledgeable technician is going to want to identify the cause. It might simply be a particular driving style or set of unusual driving conditions, it might be that a previous brake pad was faulty, and such reasons for early brake pad replacement are easily corrected. If the problem turns out to be something else in the brake system, it's important to identify and correct the problem for continued safety.
What Can and Will Happen If Brakes Aren't Properly ServicedThe first thing to happen when brake pads are nearing the end of their life cycle is
a squealing noise will begin when brake pressure is applied. It's designed to alert the driver of the issue and is intentionally a nuisance so the driver will have new brake pads installed. With newer vehicles, there is also likely an alert light in the dashboard as well. If the pads aren't replaced, they will eventually wear down further and allow metal from the pad's backing to grind directly on the rotor, which will damage the brake system in a way that will be far more expensive to repair.
